a local dive

In the midst of our city-wide tour, Silver fell down for a week with a minor surgery, nothing serious but enough to render her immobile and in need of constant attention. Not to mention the pets, who required constant feeding. I devoted nearly all of my energy to this task, until finally, on a Friday night, I took advantage of a prolonged sleep and the need for a medicine run to stop at a local dive for a bite to eat. I slipped into The End, a sports bar that had been a popular party and game pizza place I had frequented when my kids were younger. I ordered a sandwich and ate it hungrily, the first real meal I had eaten in over a week. A karaoke stage had been set up in the corner where a large projection TV had before darkly projected. I went over to the guy running the show and picked a quick raucous number to wail.
