“Here,” I said, fumbling into my pocket to retrieve an oval tubed lighter, flicked the steel wheel with my thumb to provoke the sudden light of a butane flame, brought the inch long cockroach with a roll in the whoosh of fire to rekindle the cherry end, held to my lips drawn into a bright glow as the flame vanished.
