nanowrimo – day 21

48,512 words and I should win nanowrimo tomorrow! Chapter 19 has been spruced up to a robust 2500 words and I’ll put the last bit of beef into chapter 20 tomorrow. The first draft will be in shape to start at the top and work all the way through.

I write using the technique of overwrite and edit down. I have a basic chapter outline, tell the tale and then push to expand my ideas until I’m sure I have plenty of material. Then I get out the knife and start whittling away at the chaff.

I love mixed metaphors. They keep my mind active.

I’m starting to ponder cover ideas. I’m not going to use Veronica Lake because someone would stop me later and I don’t need the hassle. I may do something conceptual or maybe take a photo myself. Since I plan to distribute the novel as a present, I should make it look sweet.

Onward and upward!
